WhatsApp currently appears to be down. Several users have reported on Twitter, among other places, that the messenger is not working properly. WhatsApp has not yet commented on the problem.

There is currently no way to fix the problem yourself. For some users, restarting the smartphone has helped. In addition, the servers sometimes come back online for a short time. As a little tip: as an alternative, simply use a messenger like Telegram or good old SMS.
Update at 20:43 p.m.: In our tests, the messenger seems to be working again. However, some users still complain about problems with the app, especially when receiving and sending messages and media.
Update at 20:51 p.m.: On the status page allertoerungen.de the messages seem to be getting less again. The brief malfunction seems to have been resolved.

Somehow these problems are piling up at the moment, but it doesn't really bother me. WhatsApp is just annoying.
