After years of dispute that seemed almost infinitely long, YouTube and Gema have now come to an agreement. From now on there are no longer country blocks on YouTube music videos. Good for users.

Everyone knows that: you are looking for good music and the message appears: "Unfortunately, this video is not available in Germany". That’s over now, like that FAZ reported. After years of disagreement between YouTube and, the music representative of the interpreters, the Gema, an agreement has finally been reached. YouTube has to pay fees to Gema with immediate effect, so users can enjoy most music videos on YouTube without restriction. However, the amount of the levy is so far unknown.

YouTube pays fees to Gema, users can enjoy music videos without restriction

The dispute between YouTube and Gema has been going on since 2009. Now an agreement has been reached. According to this agreement, YouTube has to pay royalties in an unknown amount to Gema. The reason for these blocks was the dispute as to whether YouTube was considered a video service and thus had to take responsibility for the published videos, or whether YouTube only served as a platform for users. In January of this year, Gema lost a claim for damages against YouTube before the Munich Higher Regional Court. Society wanted pro Calling a copyrighted collect from the platform 0,375 cents.

With this agreement, YouTube, according to FAZ, must transmit the Gema about the exact number of views of videos by artists that the company represents. Depending on the views, YouTube has to pay certain sums to Gema. This means that users can enjoy more videos without a lock on YouTube again.
