Asus ZenWatch 3 presented: the round smartwatch with three buttons

Asus presented a new successor to the ZenWatch at a press event at the IFA in Berlin. The ZenWatch 3 is the first round smartwatch from Asus with three buttons. There is also an additional battery.
So far, the Moto 360 was the only known, round smartwatch with Android Wear. The two predecessors, the ZenWatch and the ZenWatch 2, used an angular design. Now Asus would like to make the smartwatch look like a mechanical watch again with a round design. With a display of 1,39 inches, the successor is smaller than the two predecessors. With an AMOLED display and a pixel density of 287 dpi, the smartwatch is nice and sharp.
Asus ZenWatch 3 with Hyper-Charge and its own fitness app
The ZenWatch 3 comes with a quick charge function called "Hyper-Charge" and charges to 15% of the battery capacity within 60 minutes. The battery has a capacity of 340mAh and, according to Asus, lasts 3 days in normal use. The smartwatch is charged on the back with a magnetic charger. But if you can't charge your smartwatch for a few days, you simply take the practical additional battery that is magnetically attached to the back of the ZenWatch 3 - this provides + 40% battery.

The top and bottom button is itself proProgrammable, for example to be able to quickly open an app. The button in the middle is used to operate the watch. Android Wear 1.5 is currently running as the operating system, but could receive an update to the upcoming version 2.0 in the course of the year. Inside is a Snapdragon 2100 with 512MB of RAM, plus a speaker and microphone. Music and other files have to make do with 4GB of internal memory. In addition, the watch is waterproof - according to IP67 certification.

Although there are already so many fitness apps such as Google Fit or Runtastic, Asus has launched its own fitness app with ZenWatch. It's called ZenFit and measures the wearer's daily activity, including sleep. In addition, the calories and the distance of the steps taken are evaluated. However, GPS and a heart rate monitor are not installed.

The ZenWatch 3 is available in three different case colors and two straps. You can choose from gun metal, rose gold and silver and an exchangeable leather or plastic strap. There are no prices for the individual models, the recommended retail price for the plastic bracelet was 229 euros. For the leather bracelet you have to put 249 on the table. According to Asus, it should be available in Germany and Austria in October 2016. We hope to be able to test the ZenWatch 3 in detail for you shortly.
