The now second provider brings e-mobility to Vienna. With its launch in Vienna, the US company Bird is taking its first step into the German-speaking market. You want to start small, but later you want to aim high.

Bird nests next to Lime now as one of the first providers of e-scooters in Vienna. Even before the launch of Lime, it should start tomorrow - a total of 100 scooters are to be distributed at suitable locations in Vienna. But if the scooters are well received, the fleet will be increased. If each scooter is booked at least three times a day, it will be topped up. The scooters can be found in the 1st district as well as in districts 4-9. However, you can drive anywhere in the city. In addition, the scooters are said to have been very popular in the cities of Paris and Brussels - every ninth user is said to have driven at least one more time there after the first trip.

It doesn't work without the rules of the game

With that one Proproject can work, all legal aspects have already been looked at in advance. The e-scooters are treated like bicycles - they may therefore only be ridden on the street or on cycle paths. The speed limit is 24 km/h, a driver's license is not necessary. There will also be a mobile team, the so-called “bird watchers”. These should monitor the system in order to be able to impose immediate sanctions in the event of rule violations. Those who do not act responsibly can be banned from the app. Before doing so, each user agrees to a security agreement with Bird.

The birds come back every evening

Every evening at 21 p.m. the scooters are tracked down in the city and collected. The time until the start at 6 a.m. is used to charge, clean and maintain the e-scooters. The next day, the scooters are parked again at (new locations) and again accept new bookings from users in the app. The scooter can be started for one euro, pro minute the trip with the scooter costs 15 cents.

When you reach your destination, you return the scooter to a responsible place (parking lot, bike stand) and end the journey in the app. However, it is still unclear how the company intends to prevent theft and damage. Although the public transport in Vienna is quite well developed, the aim of the new service is to close the gap between the last public transport stop and your destination. This is how you become 1 euro every day pro Donate scooters to the city of Vienna to expand and promote e-mobility.

In any case, I remain curious and will try out the new e-scooters when I get a chance in Viennaprobeer
