Huawei today officially launched a new foldable smartphone, the Huawei Mate X2, for the Chinese market. The hardware is really impressive for a foldable.

Unlike its predecessor, the main screen of the Mate X2 does not fold outwards, but inwards. This has the advantage that both halves of the screen lie on top of one another when closed and are thus protected. Especially with foldable smartphones, it is very important to protect the sensitive displays. Similar to Samsung, there is a second screen on the outside.

Huawei Mate X2: Technical Specifications

The smaller display on the outside measures 6,45 inches, has a resolution of 2.700 x 1.160 pixels and supports a smooth refresh rate of 90 Hertz. The panel is only interrupted by a punch hole on the left, in which there is space for two front cameras. If you open the smartphone, the huge 8 inch OLED main screen appears, which has a resolution of 2.480 x 2.200 pixels and also supports 90 Hertz. The in-house user interface EMUI 11, based on Android 10, is used as software, although the manufacturer would like to equip the Mate X2 with HarmonyOS at a later date. The energy-saving Kirin 9000 is used under the hood, and is supported by 8 GB of RAM. The buyer can choose between 256 and 512 GB of internal storage.

The built-in battery has a capacity of 4.500 mAh and can be quickly charged with a cable with up to 55 watts. On the back there is a quad camera that is similar to the Huawei P40 Pro+ is positioned in a black rectangle at the top left. A 50 megapixel camera with the usual RYYB technology is used as the main sensor. There is also a 16 megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera that can also be used for macro shots. In addition, there are two telephoto lenses that enable a 3-fold or a 10-fold optical zoom. However, only the 12 megapixel 3x telephoto lens comes with RYYB technology. The front camera on the front has a resolution of 16 megapixels and is complemented by an ultra-wide-angle camera.

Huawei Mate X2: price, colors and availability

The Huawei Mate X2 will initially only be available in China for the equivalent of around 2.305 euros. The market launch in China is on February 25th. The colors available are black, white, crystal blue and crystal pink. Whether the Mate X2 will ever find its way to Europe is still unclear at this point in time.
