Alpine A390: French electric crossover with three engines and up to 555 km range

With the A390, the French sports car brand Alpine presented its second all-electric model from its "Alpine Dream Garage" in Dieppe on May 27, 2025. It is a five-seat sports fastback with three electric motors delivering up to 345 kW (470 hp). With a range of up to 555 WLTP kilometers, a charging speed of up to 190 kW, innovative cell chemistry, and comprehensive bidirectional charging functions, it is a serious competitor for models such as the Polestar 2 or Mustang Mach-E GT.
Design of the Alpine A390: Sporty elegance with recognition value
The Alpine A390 presents itself as five-seater sports fastback with clear, dynamic lines. The proportions (4,62 meters long, 1,89 meters wide, 1,53 meters high) combine sportiness with everyday practicality. Characteristic design features include the "Cosmic Dust" light signature with illuminated triangles at the front and rear, the visor-like rear window, and aerodynamically optimized elements such as the blade on the hood, flaps on the rear wheels, and a discreet rear spoiler.
Six body colors, various wheel designs (20 or 21 inches, inspired by snowflake patterns), and numerous customization options underscore the exclusive appeal. The vehicle's aerodynamics consistently follow its function and are designed to contribute significantly to efficiency and range.

Interior and infotainment: comfort and high-tech
Inside, passengers are greeted by a sporty, high-quality five-seater cocoon with leather, microfiber, and atmospheric ambient lighting. The driver-focused cockpit features two large displays (12,3 and 12 inches), a heated sports steering wheel with red OVT and blue RCH buttons (overtake boost and recuperation control including one-pedal mode), and electrically adjustable sports seats. The GTS version also features bucket seats from Sabelt with massage function and carbon option.
A Devialet audio system With up to 13 speakers, it's designed to deliver a first-class sound experience. The infotainment system is based on Android Automotive, offers over-the-air updates, Google Maps with EV route planning, and numerous apps. Alpine Telemetrics also provides the driver with extensive driving data, coaching, and challenge functions, which can also be accessed via a smartphone. The 532-liter trunk volume can be used even more versatilely with an optional double loading floor.

Battery and range of the Alpine A390: French high-performance technology
The of Vercor The 89 kWh high-performance battery (net) developed by the company is based on a newly designed 400-volt architecture with NMC (nickel-manganese-cobalt) cells with a high nickel content. This is intended to guarantee particularly high energy density and discharge performance. Using the new technology, up to 1.200 amps can be provided in discharge mode, allowing the three electric motors to deliver their full power even at a lower charge level (up to 30% SOC). A specially designed water cooling system with increased flow also ensures that the battery remains thermally stable even during multiple, consecutive power peaks.
The batteries are manufactured and assembled in France. They are expected to enable a WLTP range of up to 555 km (with 20-inch wheels) or 520 km (with 21-inch wheels) – both subject to final homologation. A heat pump installed as standard is intended to further optimize energy efficiency and increase the range, especially at low outside temperatures.

Charging with the Alpine A390: Solid charging speed and V2L and V2G functionality
Fast charging is said to be possible at up to 190 kW. The battery should be able to maintain high charging power even over extended periods. This allows the battery to be charged from 25 to 15 percent in under 80 minutes. An 11 kW onboard charger is available for charging at home, with a 22 kW charger available as an option. A heat pump is also installed as standard.
Thanks to its bidirectional V2L and V2G functionality, the A390 can also be used as an energy supplier or energy storage system. These functions are controlled and monitored via the Smartphone app “My Alpine”, which also supports charging planning, routes with charging stops and battery preconditioning.
Alpine also integrates the A390 into the Mobilize ecosystem and offers free access to a ChargePass, which provides access to numerous public charging stations across Europe.

Drive of the Alpine A390: Three engines for maximum dynamics
At the heart of the system is the newly developed all-wheel drive system with three electric motors – a first for Alpine. One motor is located on the front axle, two more on the rear axle. The latter each drive a rear wheel individually. This setup enables the Alpine Active Torque Vectoring system: Power is distributed not only between the front and rear axles, but also individually between the rear wheels. The result is outstanding agility, traction, and driving stability, especially in curves and during sporty driving.
The A390 is offered in two performance levels:
A390 GT: 295 kW (400 hp), 0–100 km/h in 4,8 seconds, top speed 200 km/h.
A390 GTS: 335 kW (470 hp), 0–100 km/h in 3,9 seconds, top speed 220 km/h.
The performance is supposed to be consistently available even when the battery level is low. There are also special features: The OV (Overtake) button on the steering wheel provides a boost for overtaking maneuvers at the touch of a button, and Launch Control enables maximum speed from a standstill.

Chassis and assistance systems: Alpine-typical lightness
The A390 is based on the AmpR Medium Platform, but has been extensively redesigned to achieve maximum driving dynamics. A low center of gravity, near-ideal weight distribution (49% front, 51% rear), and a wide track are designed to ensure sporty handling. The special aluminum rear axle allows for the installation of the two rear engines and simultaneously creates space for a generous 532-liter trunk.
The chassis with hydraulic bump stops, the precise steering, and the large brakes (365 mm discs, 6-piston calipers) are designed to ensure a direct and controllable driving experience – whether on country roads, in everyday use, or on the racetrack. Five driving modes, including a Track mode, allow the vehicle's dynamics, torque vectoring, and stability control to be adapted to the respective application.
The A390 is also equipped with the latest generation of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). New features such as a drowsiness warning system with proAn aggressive emergency braking function, a reversing emergency braking assistant, a lane departure warning system, and an exit assistant complement the traditional assistance systems. Using a button on the left side of the steering wheel, the driver can activate the preferred ADAS parameters at the touch of a button.
The two versions of the Alpine A390 in comparison
Both models feature three-motor all-wheel drive, the Alpine Active Torque Vectoring system, and identical battery and charging infrastructure. The GTS version is the sportier and more luxurious variant with more power, more exclusive features, and an expanded range of features.
