"Threads": New Instagram app to attack Snapchat
It's no secret that Instagram has already brought some Snapchat users to the picture platform. By introducing stories and other things, the app has been made more and more interesting. Now they start another attack and want to publish the "Threads" app soon.
Who The Verge reports, the company Instagram, which belongs to Facebook, is to work on a new app called "Threads". This should be a messenger for close friends - including status updates and current location. These functions should not be integrated into the Instagram app, but appear as a separate app. This should contain contacts who have entered themselves as close friends on Instagram.
"Threads": sharing of location, battery level and activities
The purpose of this app is to share your location, your own battery level and current activities. Some of these things can also be found on the "Snap Map“- a map within Snapchat, where you can see the location and current activity of your friends. The point, however, should not be to "monitor" your friends, but to see whether a friend is currently on the road - at least that is what an insider claims.
Although Instagram has now clearly left the competing app Snapchat behind on the number of users, they would like to stay longer in the app. Snapchat often goes forever: you see what friends are doing, look at stories, snap back to others and much more. There is no such thing on Instagram - therefore users are also shorter in the app than in Snapchat. With threads you want to change this and let the users use the app all the time.
Threads is currently still in development - it is unclear when the app will be launched and whether it will appear that way at all.
