Threads from Instagram: New Messenger presented as a Snapchat competitor
Almost two months ago we had in this article already reported about the new "Threads" messenger from Instagram. This is now quite by the way and unexpected launched for Android and iOS. The new messenger is also available in this country.
For a long time, Facebook has been trying to attack the competition - especially Snapchat - with Instagram. So you published the stories, added filters and also integrated survey, time and location stickers into the app. Some time ago, Snapchat did the "Snap Map" presented. With this you can see the current location of your friends. The new Instagram app works in a similar way.
Threads from Instagram: Messenger and Auto-Status
The new app combines the chat functions - already known from Instagram - with additional functions for "close friends". This is a group of people that you can define yourself and who you want to make more content available. For example, you can only share a story with close friends on Instagram. Threads are all about close friends: there you can only communicate with these friends.
With functions such as auto status, the app automatically recognizes what you are doing and forwards it to friends. If you charge your smartphone, for example, there is a “charging” status or when you visit the park, friends are automatically shown “In nature”.
If you open the app for the first time, you can log in directly with your Instagram account. By default, the camera always opens (we also know it from Snapchat), swiping down opens the chat overview. There you can find the last chats from Instagram, but only those with close friends.
Threads from Instagram: Available for Android and iOS with Dark Mode
There are no real differences or advantages to normal Instagram chat in "Threads", just the automatic, more personal status updates. I'll be curious to see how the app will develop over the next few months. Of course, we have also included the links to download the app for Android and iOS directly below. Oh yes, for all fans of the dark side of power: you can set the design of the app to dark (i.e. dark mode) in the settings. 😉 Den Dark Mode for Instagram on Android is currently being distributed.
