Windows 10: No more free upgrade from Saturday - what now?

All users of Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 have been able to upgrade to the new Windows 10 free of charge since the release up to and including today. The operating system will then cost money from Saturday.

From July 30th, the time has come: Windows 10 costs money. Windows 10 was officially released on July 29, 2015 - since then, the operating system has already been installed on 300 million PCs and laptops. Since that day, every user of Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 has had the opportunity to switch to Windows 10 free of charge. But what now?

Upgrade quickly and cheaply from Vista or XP to Windows 10

If you want to quickly switch to Windows 10 from Vista or XP, you should buy Windows 7. The predecessor is already available in various shops in Germany for 20 euros and is therefore a lot cheaper than Windows 10 currently costs. That's great, because at least Windows 7 is required to upgrade to the successor. Before doing this, however, you should check whether your PC meets the requirements for Windows 7 and Windows 10. If you still want to get Windows 8 to switch, you currently have to pay 60 euros. If you are not satisfied with Windows 10, you can downgrade again for free for the first 30 days.

That's how much Windows 10 costs

But if you want to save yourself the mostly 2 to 3-hour upgrade, you can also buy the successor directly. Windows 10 currently costs 135 euros in the home version and for the Proversion costs 279 euros, which is normal for any new operating system from Microsoft. If you have the opportunity, you should use the cheaper variant to change.

How long will Windows 7 and Windows 8 be supported?

Although there won't be any major new features for the two predecessors, Windows 7 and Windows 8 will still be kept up-to-date for longer with regular updates. How to get on the Support page from Microsoft, Windows 7 will be provided with security updates until January 14, 2020. Windows 8 / 8.1 may receive new features until January 9, 2018. After that there will be support from Microsoft with security updates until January 10, 2023 at the latest.

To quickly let your friends know about the free upgrade, feel free to share this article on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ or WhatsApp. You are also welcome to leave your opinion on the topic in the comments!

[...] you can be sure of that. However, this is only allowed if the manufacturer does a later upgrade to Windows 10 [...]

Oops, completely forgotten. Had thought that updating is always possible?
Do I have to buy Windows 7 quickly today ... I have XP: /

Not true at all. Win10 free of charge for 1 year, the title should read! Then you pay money for it!

And where did you pick up this fairy tale? The heading is truthful. Or do you have the link to this article? 😉
