Wireless in-ears are clearly the trend. Apple started with the AirPods and since then many have been trying to improve on the concept. A colleague in the group is Libratone with the Libratone track Air +. I looked closely at the model.

At first glance, the Libratone Track Air + offers everything you could want from true wireless in-ears. A compact and lightweight form factor, a battery that lasts all day, wireless charging and noise canceling. Now I was able to test the things extensively in everyday life and see whether they are really as perfect as they are at first glance.

Unboxing and initial setup

The Track Air+ comes in a fairly small, square package. That became a Product image, some logos and various fonts are printed. The colors of the pack are white and dark blue. If you remove the outer cover, you get to the box with all the gimmicks. Inside we have the Track Air+ in its charging case, a USB-C cable and some instructions. There are also different sized earplugs. As is so often the case, you don't get your own power supply unit here either.

To pair the in-ear headphones with a device, go to the item for Bluetooth devices in the device settings. There you can then activate the pairing mode. At the same time, you open the charging case and hold down the button in it for a short time. The headphones should now appear under the name "Track Air+ Left" ("Track Air+ Right" will appear after pairing). This Prozess is very fast and shouldn't take two minutes.

It is also a good idea to invest 10 minutes in finding the right ear tips. It should be such that both listeners sit firmly and still do not press in the ear. With the right tips, the sound and effect of the ANC (more details on this later) can even improve significantly.

Design and workmanship

Most people will think of the AirPods when they see the Libratone Track Air+, as there is a certain similarity in design. The small earbuds and charging case are made entirely of plastic and come in Stormy Black and Clearly White. The processing of all parts left a largely positive impression on me, whereby I noticed that the plastic of the charging case shows a few signs of wear (after just a few days) and the folding mechanism for the lid seems a little fragile. The headphones are waterproof, so you can use them in the pool or in the bathtub probounce effortlessly.

I find that the Track Air + are very inconspicuous, as you only find a company logo and the connectors for the charging box on both buds. Incidentally, this also has a Libratone logo and a USB-C port for charging. Wireless charging with the QI standard also supports this. The sides of the two plugs also recognize touch, which means you can pause the current song, for example. You can configure this in the app for the headphones, there are three free actions available on each side.

The charging case is very compact. (Picture: TechnikNews)

The point why I like these in-ears so much is the compactness of the case and earbuds, which weigh only 5,6 grams. Because the charging box (only 36 grams) is quite small and rounded on the sides, it disappears easily into your pocket and is hardly noticeable from the outside. I can do that from Sennheiser competitionproduct do not claim.

comfort

As I said before, the wireless in-ears from Libratone are very light. If you can then find the right attachments, you can wear them in your ears for several hours. They don't fall out of my ears, even when I walked they stayed in my ears. In the best case scenario, you shouldn't even notice you're wearing in-ears.

Sound quality and ANC

Libratone built in two 5,3 millimeter drivers and integrated the Bluetooth codes SBC and aptX. This combination ensures (with the neutral equalizer that can be found in the Companion app) for a fairly balanced sound, neither the highs, the lows, nor the mids are neglected. I was used to that from Libratone. Two other equalizers are then available, each of which emphasizes the highs or lows.

Active Noise Canceling, or ANC for short, blocks outside noise and can be regulated at various levels. Or you can opt for the smart mode, where regulation happens automatically. I have found that the suppression is not perfect, but still not bad. In an office, almost all noises are faded out; next to the street it can happen that one or the other sound is heard clearly and distinctly.

Specs and battery life

For the connection with the smartphone, Libratone uses Bluetooth 5 with the Libratone Track Air +. The connection is always established quickly and is also stable during use, but I don't understand why you can't be connected to several devices at the same time and not always must pair again. It can also be confusing that in the settings “Track Air + Left” and “Track Air + Right” instead of simply “Track Air +” appears. Then I noticed a little noise every now and then when I held my smartphone near the headphones.

According to the manufacturer, the battery life is 24 hours, with the two earphones each supposed to last six hours before they have to be recharged in the transport box. The case can fully recharge it four times. I can't say much else about this either, I achieved these values roughly with everyday use.

I just wrote something about wireless charging, for which the coil was integrated in the charging case: In parallel with the in-ear headphones, the Danish audio specialist brought the right accessory on the market with which you can take advantage of this feature: the Libratone COIL, a charging pad. This comes in a similar package as the wireless headphones. In it we have the charging plate, a USB-C cable for the power supply and a power supply unit. In addition to the Libratone Track Air +, the gadget also charges other devices at a comfortable pace.

For the sake of completeness, I have to mention that I am currently using wireless charging for my Air+ Probleme and therefore could not test it directly with the headphones.

Libratone app

The Libratone app, with which the headphones can be controlled even better, can be found in the Play Store and the App Store and has hardly changed. The primary functions, which include controlling the ANC (why can't you do that directly on the earphones?), Setting an equalizer and downloading updates. The general design didn't change either, which I don't think is bad because I like it a lot.

Then there are the incomprehensible things again. First of all, I don't understand why you need your own user account for the app. For example, Sennheiser doesn't ask for that either. Then it is still unclear to me why you can only see the current charge level in the app and only when there is at least one Bud in the charging case. Why can't you hear the current battery level, for example, when you put the in-ears in your ears?

Prices and availability

The RRP of Track Air + is around 200 euros. You can buy the gadget on Amazon and Cyberport.

Libratone Track Air +: conclusion

The Libratone Track Air+ are excellent wireless in-ear headphones that put a lot of pressure on the competition on the market with their low price of just over 200 euros. Libratone made at this Product so much right. The successful, simple and compact design, wireless charging, the good sound and ANC speak for it Product. The fact that you can use these things for a whole day (really 24 hours!) without having to charge them only makes the experience even better. In addition, I can wear them in my ear for several hours without anything pinching.

As impressed as I may be, I have to complain about a few small things that the manufacturer could do better. First there is the processing of the case for the buds, which could have been more important. Second, I would have liked the Track Air + to appear as a single device and, third, I would have been happy if the headphones could be used with multiple devices at the same time without repeating the pairing.

All in all, the Libratone Track Air + are interesting in-ears that set the bar even higher for the competition. I am excited to see what else we can expect in the future.
