Apple iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max introduced

Apple has officially introduced the new iPhone 16 series. With numerous new features, improved cameras and stronger performance. Both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus as well as the Pro models have received some exciting innovations, with the highlight being "Apple Intelligence".
The basic versions, the iPhone 16 with 6,1 inch and the iPhone 16 Plus with 6,7 inch display, impress with improved brightness of up to 2.000 nits. This ensures significantly better readability outdoors, even in direct sunlight. In contrast, the Pro models, the iPhone 16 Pro with 6,3 inch and the iPhone 16 Pro Max with 6,9 inch display, rely on larger screens with thinner bezels.
In a nutshell:
- New features of the iPhone 16: Improved brightness (up to 2.000 nits), 48 MP main camera, new camera button for easy photo and video recording, macro & ultra wide angle now also in the basic model
- iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max: Larger displays, 4K video recording at 120 FPS, new design in “Desert Titanium” color, focus on proprofessional videoproproductions.
- Apple Intelligence: New AI platform for smarter functions, e.g. emoji generation, intelligent prioritization of notifications. Rollout in 2024, but German version only after 2025.
- Prices and availability: iPhone 16 from 949 euros, iPhone 16 Pro from 1.199 euros, pre-order from September 13th.

Action button now also for entry-level iPhones
One of the most notable innovations is the introduction of the Action button, which was previously reserved for the Pro models. With the Action button, users can quickly access frequently used functions. As already known, this button can be used to directly launch apps, start automations and, of course, mute the iPhone or set it to loud.
The camera setup of the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus includes a 48 MP main camera, a 12 MP 2x telephoto lens and a 12 MP ultra-wide camera. The 48 MP Fusion camera has been optimized especially for portrait shots. Also new is the ability to record spatial videos and, for the first time, spatial photos, which offer an even more realistic depth effect.
As a highlight, the Pro models now also support video recording in 4K at 120 FPS.
In addition, all iPhone 16 models now have an additional physical camera button that makes it easier to take photos in horizontal mode. Clicking once starts the camera app, another click takes a photo. If you hold down the button, video recording starts, while you can zoom in by sliding over the button. The new camera button is not only designed for photography, but is also used in conjunction with Apple Intelligence.
Apple Intelligence as a highlight
Inside the new iPhone 16 series is the A18 chip (A18 Pro in the Pro models), based on a 3nm process. It has a 6-core CPU that is 30% faster than its predecessor, as well as a 16-core Neural Engine that doubles the speed, especially in the area of machine learning. This makes all applications smoother and more efficient, especially for tasks that require artificial intelligence.
The biggest highlight of the event, however, was the launch of Apple Intelligence, Apple's new AI platform. This will offer features such as emoji generation, text search in the gallery ("Lisa dancing in the garden in a blue dress"), summaries in emails and messages, and intelligent prioritization of notifications. Siri will also become more intelligent, for example by automatically sending pictures to contacts ("Send Lukas the photos from last week's birthday party").
However, Apple Intelligence will not be available in the EU until next year. German users will have to be particularly patient, as the German language version does not even seem to be planned for 2025 - at least Apple did not even mention it for next year at the event. The English rollout, however, will begin next month.
Video emergency call function and satellite support
In the US, the iPhone 16 now also supports sending live videos to the 911 control center in an emergency. This option is intended to enable emergency services to respond better to the situation on site. In addition, "Find My" via satellite, a function for locating people and devices without network coverage, is now being made available in other countries, including Germany and Austria.

iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max with focus on camera & video
As usual, the Pro models come with additional features and exclusive designs. One of the most striking new features in the Pro models is the introduction of the new color "Desert Titanium", in the usual finish. This replaces the previously available blue, which disappears from the range with this generation. It is very noticeable that Apple is trying to make the Pro even more attractive for proprofessional (film) productions and to bring the functions for "normal" customers into the standard iPhone. Most of the innovations in the Pro model can also be found in the camera area.

Colors, Prices & Availability
- Colors iPhone 16 and 16 Plus: Ultramarine, Teal, Pink, White and Black
- Colors iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max: Titanium Desert Sand, Titanium Natural, Titanium White, Titanium Black
Compared to the iPhone 15 (Pro), the iPhone 16 and Pro cost exactly the same as the previous models.
- The iPhone 16 launches at 949 euros with 128 GB, 256 GB (1.079 euros) or 512 GB (1.329 euros) internal memory.
- At the 16 iPhone Plus Prices start at 1.099 euros (128 GB). The storage variants are as follows: 256 GB for 1.229 euros and 512 GB for 1.479 euros.
- The iPhone 16 Pro The entry-level version with 128 GB storage is available for 1.199 euros. More storage costs as follows: 256 GB for 1.329 euros, 512 GB for 1.579 euros and 1 TB for 1.829 euros.
- The larger Pro version, the iPhone 16 Pro Max starts at 1.449 euros. 256 GB storage is the entry-level version. If you need more, you pay 1.699 euros for 512 GB and 1.949 euros for 1 TB.
