Next to the Galaxy Note 9 As expected, Samsung also presented a new smartwatch today. The Galaxy Watch doesn't differ much from its predecessor, but it has a new name.

Until now, Samsung had always named their smartwatches "Gear". Now that's history: From now on, the new wearables will also run under the Galaxy slogan. In terms of design and features, the watch is similar to its predecessor from last year, the Gear S3.

Galaxy Watch: It's in the watch

This time there are two variants again. That would be the Galaxy Watch with 46mm or 42mm for women or smaller arms.

The larger Galaxy Watch comes with a 1,3-inch Super AMOLED display and a resolution of 360 × 360 pixels. Overall, the watch has the dimensions of 46 x 49 x 13 and weighs 63 grams. The colors available here are Onyx Black, Deep Ocean Blue and Basalt Gray.

Both smartwatches have a heart rate monitor. There are only differences in size and equipment. (Image: Samsung)

The smaller model with 42mm comes with a 1,2-inch Super-AMOLED display with the same resolution. The exact dimensions here too: 41,9 x 45,7 x 12,7 and a weight of only 49 grams. There is a lot more choice when it comes to colors: Onyx Black, Lunar Gray, Terracotta Red, Lime Yellow, Cosmo Purple, Pink Beige, Cloud Gray and Natural Brown.

The battery has a capacity of 472mAh or 270mAh on the smaller model. An Exynos 9110 dual-core works inside Proprocessor with a clock frequency of 1,15GHz. Either 1,5GB with LTE or 768MB with the Bluetooth model are available as RAM. The internal storage of 4GB is okay for a smartwatch.

The smaller Galaxy Watch is also intended for women due to the choice of colors. (Image: Samsung)

With the software, you bet different than expected still on Samsung Tizen version 4.0 instead of on Google Wear OS. In addition, NFC, GPS, WLAN and a heart rate monitor are installed. There is still an IP68 certification for a water depth of up to 5 meters.

Galaxy Watch: availability and pricing

The Galaxy Watch will be available in two models from September 7th. Either 46mm in silver or 42mm in midnight black or rose gold. We have already listed the colors of the bracelets above. There is no information about the prices yet, but they will be available shortly on the Samsung website be submitted later. Probably if the sales start begins on August 24th in the USA.

Update: The prices of the Galaxy Watch are there (on TechnikNews Press request). The 42mm version and Bluetooth costs 309 euros, with LTE 379 euros. In contrast, the larger model costs 20 euros more and therefore costs 329 euros with Bluetooth and 399 euros with LTE.

Is too expensive for me. I think I'll look around for the fossil alternatives.

Something like that comes along with the Note 9 on my pre-order list.
