Sony officially presented three new smartphones on April 14th. We want to take a closer look at one, the Sony Xperia 1 III, in the following lines.

The Xperia 1 III is the best equipped Sony smartphone, which wants to score on paper primarily with the display and the camera. It is the first smartphone with a 4K OLED display with a 120 Hertz refresh rate and a variable telephoto lens.

Sony Xperia 1 III: Technical Specifications

The design has hardly changed compared to its predecessor. Sony remains true to itself and still does without a recess in the display for the front camera. Instead, it is housed in a long, thick border above the screen. The lower edge is also a bit thicker than that of the competition. The display has a diagonal of 6,5 inches and comes like that predecessor in the elongated 21: 9 aspect ratio. It goes without saying that this is an OLED panel, which, as a special feature, has a razor-sharp resolution of 4K (3.840 x 1.644 pixels) and at the same time supports a fluid refresh rate of 120 Hertz.

The in-house user interface, based on Android 11, is used as software. Under the hood is the Snapdragon 888 from Qualcomm, the 12 GB RAM and 256 GB flash memory, the procan easily be expanded via a micro SD card. The battery measures 4.500 mAh and can even be charged wirelessly. In addition, the Xperia 1 III is IP68 protected against the ingress of water and dust. There is also a jack connection on board, which is now a rarity on the market for high-end smartphones.

The Japanese manufacturer has placed four cameras on the back, which are arranged vertically at the top left. Both the main and ultra-wide-angle cameras as well as the telephoto lens have a resolution of 12 megapixels. The latter enables a variable focal length. Once 70 millimeters and once 105 millimeters. This makes it the first smartphone with a variable telephoto lens. There is also a TOF sensor that we already know from the predecessor. The front camera on the front has a resolution of 8 megapixels.

The Sony Xperia 1 III will appear in early summer in the colors black, purple and gray. Unfortunately, at the moment there is no information about the price.
