Until now, Vodafone's 5G network in Germany was only available to paying customers. Now one would like to share the 5G technology with all users and release the network without surcharge for all tariffs from Monday.

Like the Vodafone boss Hannes Ametsreiter across from the Düsseldorf “Rheinische Post” (Monday edition) says the 5G network is now available to all customers. Of course, a 5G-capable smartphone and a corresponding 5G transmission mast are still required. A 5G-enabled smartphone is about that Samsung Galaxy S10 5G or Huawei Mate 20X 5G. So far, only customers with “special tariffs” have been able to use the network first.

Vodafone: 5G for everyone - but few transmission masts

"We have seen thousands of new users since it was launched a few weeks ago. Because we want to share 5G with even more people, our customers can now even surf the 5G network free of charge, ”it says. Even the cheapest tariffs - including the youth tariffs - will be equipped with the 5G feature. Thus, in the best case, up to 1GBps are possible.

There are currently 50 transmission masts that transmit the 5G network at Vodafone. That is of course very little given the size of Germany: by the end of 2019 there should be at least another 100 more channels.

Such a step would also be desirable in Austria - Magenta, for example, continues to rely on “5G-ready” tariffs, which cost more.
